Set of four antique wood engravings of seabirds, FO Morris, 1870
This set of four hand-coloured wood engravings depicts the Buonaparte’s Gull (Chroicocephalus philadelphia), the Richardson’s Skua (Stercorarius parasiticus), the Great Skua (Stercorarius skua), and the White-Winged Black Tern (Chlidonias leucopterus) - all seabirds of the Northern Atlantic.
They were engraved by clergyman and ardent naturalist Francis Orpen Morris, a noted ornithological artist and illustrator, and printed in 1870 as plates in the book “A History of British Birds”.
A set of four, framed and glazed.
Each frame: 32cm wide, 25cm high
Each picture: 23cm wide, 16cm high
