Neoclassical Brass Sosibios Vase Lamp Base

This striking neoclassical piece is modelled after the Sosibios Vase, which is on display in the Louvre. It features volute handles over swan necks, ivy leaf decoration at the top, and a central bas relief frieze depicting Artemis and Hermes standing by an altar and presiding over a Bacchic procession of several maenads dancing to music and accompanied by a dancing satyr, an armed warrior, and Apollo, playing the cithara.

This piece is expertly cast, with a level of detail and artistry far surpassing most neoclassical works of the period, and is made from patinated brass.
